Well it looks like walking and typing is way easier than standing and typing. It just felt natural. I guess this is what levine was talking about. But for now my $50 treadmill seems to load for my current office. I am planning to bring it home and work from home more. I program for a living so it really doesnt matter where I do it at.
I think as a side project someone should come up with a computer interface so that your computer can count the distance you walk. I am thinking a simple Atmel microcontroller, usart connection and a simple line sensing infrared sensor.

Initial Startup
Today I was able to finnally buy my first treadmill. I payed $50 for it and its a bit loud but I have my own office so we will see where this goes. I've been scheming to do this for the past year. The information out there is small but everyone who starts this cant stop.
I want to start doing this for two reasons. First my desk job (Programmer\student) has led me to gain 50 pounds. Second I cant sleep anymore unless I eat something to go back to sleep. I drink caffein to stay awake and productive. This viscious cycle will not end. As a graduate student in class 9 hours of the day, doing research for 20 and working an outside job for 12 I just cant find time to get into the gym. Plus the gym is for people who know what they are doing.
So begins my journey. I will post back as new things develop.
